James is the owner of successful mobile DJ company Essex DJs. He has been DJing for 15 years and has been a full time professional DJ for the last seven years. James started DJing whilst in the armed forces when a friend taught him how to set up a sound system and beat mix using vinyl records. James practised constantly and learnt how to beat mix to a high standard, scratch and use effects. Every week he would buy more records, practise mixing them together and make mix tapes. James wanted to be a club DJ at the start and after months of practising and sending out mix tapes to club promoters, James managed to secure his first DJ booking which was to play a one hour set at Route nightclub, Colchester which led to playing a further four more nights at the same club.
James continued DJing when he left the armed forces playing at local venues for weddings, anniversaries and birthday parties whilst also working full time. He really enjoyed being a mobile DJ which allowed him to play a large variety of music for a wide range of audiences of mixed aged groups who were attending the events. At this point James decided that being a mobile DJ was what he wanted to do full time. So after investing heavily in advertising, and with hard work, the bookings regularly started to come in. The business took off and bookings kept increasing steadily so in 2007 James made the decision to become a full time professional DJ and has been ever since. James continues to be proud of this achieving his long term goal. During his career James has played at wedding venues, golf clubs, hotels, village halls, pubs and many other wonderful venues throughout Essex and London.
James manages the enquiries and administration during the week and at weekends he is a DJ. He is a great all-rounder, a creative DJ who likes to stick closely to his playlists and has developed a technique for making uneven playlists flow nicely during his shows. He encourages the audience to make song requests and usually plays them as the next song. He loves playing a mixture of genres and his styles of music include chart, pop, dance, club classics, motown, rock, reggae, ska, soul and funk. The type of event James usually DJs at are: weddings, 18th, 21st, 30th, 40th birthdays, school proms and kids parties. He uses a laptop to play mp3 files with CDs as backup. James can beat mix to a high standard, scratch, use effects and has a clear microphone technique but does like to keep the mic talking to a minimum. James prides himself on his personal appearance and the appearance of his equipment at his shows.
James is 37 and lives in Tiptree near Colchester Essex. In his spare time James likes dancing, playing the keyboard and playing squash. Every year he travels to the French Alps to snowboard and he is also learning to speak French.
